Keeping Children and Young People Safe
The Vulnerability Knowledge and Practice Programme report from the National Police Chief’s Council (Jan 2024) identified child sexual exploitation and abuse crimes reported to the police have quadrupled in the last ten years. The report identifies concerning statistics related to Online abuse, child on child abuse, group based organised harm and sexual abuse and exploitation within the family environment.
The Government’s Tackling child sexual abuse strategy (Feb 2021) emphasises the need for everyone to play their part “…across all agencies, all sectors, charities, communities, technology companies and society more widely”.
As part of education, health, social care, youth services, voluntary faith and community services adults need to understand the connections between child sexual exploitation and abuse and fulfill their crucial roles in safeguarding to protect children and young people from harm.
COURSE DURATION:
One day or two sessions (3 hours x 2)

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- To understand the definition of child sexual exploitation.
- To understand the grooming process, face to face and online
- To be aware of the Government’s Tackling Child Sexual Abuse Strategy 2021
- To understand the use of language in child sexual exploitation
- To identify the illegal act to take, make, show, distribute or possess to distribute “inappropriate photographs” of children as part of the Protection of Children Act 1978
- Understanding Article 12 – the Rights of the child
- To identify reachable or critical moments in intervening with a child or young person.
- To identify the recovery principle of hope
- To identify Faith in the Community resource
ASSESSMENT
Each participant needs to attend the full duration of the training and complete the Knowledge test. On completion of the course each participant will be awarded a Nationally recognised CPD Certificate in Child sexual exploitation awareness.
